Local Heroes - Moritz, Paramedic At The Wiener Berufsrettung

Through these contributions, we would like to thank our Local Heroes in these difficult times. Moritz, is a paramedic at the Wiener Berufsrettung (Emergency Medical Services) in Vienna, he says:

”At the moment the workload is not too high given the current circumstances. I believe this is due to the strict measures that are being carried out effectively with the help of a great part of the population. Additionally, the citywide health hotline contributes as a source of information and advice for the people.

Even still, the psychological strain that goes along with possibly being exposed to the virus, even without knowing it, is substantial in my work. As first responders, we often do not know in advance whether a patient is positive for Covid19. Furthermore, having to wear protective clothing such as masks and carry additional medical equipment complicates reaching patients and is physically exhausting.

We are provided with protective equipment at all times and to know that there is enough of it available is comforting. Our employer keeps us informed about changes and we receive the best support possible.

Personally, I am proud to be able to make my contribution in this crisis, to be there for the people in case of emergencies, and to be able to help to get all of us through this difficult and demanding time.”

This interview is brought to you by Vienna captain Sophie.

Here are some other Local Heroes to thank:
