The Pointer Wine Glasses - A wine-some idea turned into a reality

Amsterdam, Bucharest and Berlin. What have these cities in common? Let me tell you: The Pointer Wine Glasses.

Some time ago I've met Ramona Enache, an architect-turned product designer and entrepreneur, the mind (and soul) behind Pointer Wine Glasses. Ramona used to live in Bucharest and now she is based in Amsterdam, currently going back-and-forth to Berlin for an internship.

I sat down with her to talk about Bucharest and how not to spill your glass when you want to drink outside.

Your wine glasses are designed to be pinned anywhere you want: in the grass while having a picnic, on a beach, in the sand or virtually wherever you might want to put your glass (even your hair).

How did you come up with this idea?

I like picnics and to drink my wine from a real glass, not plastic cups. I had this idea when, on a hot evening summer in Amsterdam, I went for a picnic with some friends after work. As always, I was carrying with me wine glasses, but after some spills, one glass finally broke.

That's when I had my Eureka moment: there should be a glass I can stick in the ground!

But there wasn't anything like this on the market, so I've decided to make one, just how I needed it to be.

You had a launch event in Bucharest last December, called Pointer is Fab. Why Bucharest?

Bucharest is the city of my studies. In the last years, I only went here on vacation to see my friends or to visit fairs or factories. But one day I was with Ioana Dodan from The Fab Squad and we thought that my wine glasses are really fab, so we should join our forces and organize an event. An excuse to drink wine with all our friends. And to speak about my journey with Pointer.

What's Bucharest for you?

Bucharest isn't home anymore, but it's a city full of friends, memories and nice places. It's where I come regularly to charge my batteries and have many laughs.

If Bucharest was a type of wine, what should it be?

Nero D'Avola (Calabrese). A red wine as intense as Bucharest can be sometimes. And this wine must be served at just the right temperature to taste good, just like Bucharest.

This is for all the wine lovers out there. Cheers!
